In the election of Obama-Romney, 46 percent of potential voters would back Obama and 45 percent if the election were held Romney today. The President of the narrow advantage is well in the poll percentage three-point margin of sampling error.
And behind those numbers are a sharp contrast: 74 percent of Obama supporters say they are voting “for” she “rather than” against Romney (21 percent). But for Romney, support is primarily anti-Obama. Fifty-eight percent of Romney voters said they would vote “against Obama” rather than “for Romney” (33 percent).
Each candidate receives strong support from their party faithful. Eighty-eight percent of Democrats back Obama, and 86 percent of Republicans support Romney.
Overall, voters are “extremely” confident in the ability of Obama (26 percent) to make the right decisions for the country than felt that way about Romney (16 percent).
